While we may spend time repairing and improving the things around us, God is at work restoring something far more precious: His people.

Visitors to these pages may recall our web site "remodeling" of a month or so ago. It was a rewarding project that we hope has been a blessing to visitors thus far. And we all know a remodeled kitchen or even fresh paint, carpeting and curtains can make a home more beautiful and functional for all. As I started work on the e-Card designs for next month, God put on my heart to remember an even better remodeling project, in fact the greatest remodeling project of all -- His work through Jesus Christ to redeem us and make us new creations, and children of God! (1 John 3:1)
Of course, many such verses have become e-Cards for June. Let's wander through a few Scriptures that tell of His glorious handiwork, and I will give a preview of June's e-Card designs that declare and celebrate them.
Unlike most of our projects, which focus on sprucing up the old, when God works in us, we are wholly new, and the old passes away. No matter how far we have wandered from God, no matter how stony our heart may grow, no matter how scarlet the sins or how long the list, God can still make us new, with the old no longer remembered.
Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:17| Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.

What a joyous start to a project! When we confess our sins and turn back toward God, we are forgiven and cleansed from all unrighteousness, washed in the blood of Jesus. Knowing what He did for us and will do for every 'prodigal' who comes back, is a blessed promise we can all rejoice in.
Verse: 1John 1:9| If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

It is not uncommon these days to hear of people left in the lurch by contractors who fail to finish their projects and then never answer their calls or e-mails. Not so with our Father in heaven and our Lord, Jesus the Christ. As promised since Genesis 3:15, God's plan and the work of Jesus for our redemption is a guarantee backed by the One who created us
Verse: Philippians 1:6| being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

Jesus proclaimed that the first and great commandment was 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' (Matthew 22:36-36), but our natural heart is not prone to put God first or follow His commandments. Jesus also told us "If you love me, keep my commandments." (John 14:15).
It takes a new heart, beating in a new creation to walk in the newness of life with Him, and God promises us just that!
Verse: Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

Old made new. Filthy made clean. Hearts of stone made flesh. The work God is doing is transforming each of us from imperfection to righteousness and ultimately, eternal life with Him and our Father because we now put on the righteousness of Jesus. If you are like me, you look at your past and wonder how it is even possible? But with God, all things ARE possible. Hallelujah!
Verse: 2 Corinthians 3:18 | But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Ask any homeowner who has had a large remodeling project and most will tell you that renovation fatigue is real. Our walk with Jesus as He renovates our hearts can seem long and hard. We have the perfect remedy to our own renovation fatigue -- Jesus! He who laid down His life to ransom us is both our example and our strength as we press now toward the finish.
Verse: Hebrews 12:1-2 | Therefore let’s also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Our redemption in Christ Jesus is sure. Not done by our own devices, not by corruptible things of this world such as gold or silver, but by the dearest price ever paid -- the blood of Yeshua the Messiah. He left heaven behind willingly (Philippians 2:5-7), and gave His own life for us (John 10:15). Is it any wonder that the hymn of heaven is, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!"?
Verse: 1 Peter 1:18-19| knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers,
but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, the blood of Christ;

One day, those who made Jesus their King and Savior and overcame the world will be given a white stone. On that stone will be written a new name, that only the recipient will know. Jesus promises this in Revelation 2:17.
If you believe, as many do, that the many woeful events of today that seem to increase by the week are the "beginning of sorrows" that Jesus spoke of (Matthew 24:8), then you likely feel this day is not far off. What a joyous culmination to God's work of redemption it will be to stand before Him and receive our new name, perhaps to hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant".
Verse: Revelation 2:17b | To him who overcomes, to him I will give of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, which no one knows but he who receives it.

We've only touched on a few of the many ways that God's loving hands change us and make us new. Do you have other favorite verses that remind you of His work in you? We'd love to hear from you -- perhaps they could become a new e-Card to bless and encourage others!
